What to do when a P2P order is disputed
A P2P dispute is decided on evidence, not on who complains loudest. Raise it inside the order before the timer expires, upload the bank statement line rather than a screenshot, keep every message in the order chat, and never release escrow while the dispute is open.
A dispute is not a failure of the system — it is the system working. Escrow exists precisely so that a disagreement can be paused and examined instead of resolved by whoever moves fastest.
What a dispute actually is
While an order is open, the USDT is held in escrow. Neither side controls it. Raising a dispute freezes that state and hands the decision to human moderation, which reviews the order record and both sides' evidence.
When to raise one
- As a buyer: you paid, the timer is running out, and the seller has not released.
- As a seller: the payment has not arrived, arrived short, or arrived from a different name.
- Either side: the counterparty is pushing you off-platform, or asking for anything outside the order flow.
Raise it *before* the order auto-cancels. An expired order is a much weaker starting position than a live disputed one.
Evidence that carries weight
| Strong | Weak |
|---|---|
| Bank statement showing the credit, with the sender name | A UPI success screenshot |
| Full transaction reference / UTR number | A partial or cropped image |
| The in-order chat log | A WhatsApp conversation |
| On-chain transaction hash for the crypto leg | 'I already sent it, trust me' |
| Timestamps that line up with the order | Recollections without times |
The pattern is simple: records a third party can verify beat images you produced. A UTR can be checked. A screenshot cannot.
How to present it
1State the facts, in order, with times
What you did, when, and what you expected. Moderators read a great many of these — a clear chronology is worth more than emphasis.
2Attach the primary document
The statement line or the transaction hash. Upload the source, not a photo of a screen showing the source.
3Point to the order chat rather than repeating it
It is already in the record. Referencing it is stronger than paraphrasing it.
4Stop negotiating with the counterparty
Once moderation is involved, further pressure from either side changes nothing and can be read as pressure.
The mistakes that lose winnable disputes
- Releasing escrow because the other side promised to sort it out privately.
- Moving to Telegram, then having no record of what was agreed.
- Paying from an account that is not yours, so the credit cannot be tied to you.
- Letting the order expire before raising the dispute.
- Submitting screenshots when a statement export was available.
If the dispute involves a payment you now suspect came from fraud proceeds, read what to do when your bank account is frozen as well — the two problems often arrive together.
Every FastXP2P order carries an escrow lock, a chat log and an order ID — the three things a dispute is decided on.
Start tradingFrequently asked questions
How long does a P2P dispute take to resolve?
It depends on how quickly both sides submit evidence. Disputes with a clear bank statement and matching order record resolve fastest; ones that rely on screenshots and recollection take longest.
What happens to the crypto during a dispute?
It stays locked in escrow. Neither party can move it until moderation decides, which is exactly why you should never release as a goodwill gesture.
Can I dispute after the order is completed?
Once escrow is released the order is settled, which is why the release step is the one to slow down on. Report it to support and, if money was taken by deception, to the cyber cell.
