Ask for the transaction hash, open the official block explorer on a domain you typed yourself, then confirm the token's contract address matches the official USDT contract for that chain — every character, including the middle. On BNB Chain the only genuine USDT contract is 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955.

The 30-second check
1Demand the transaction hash — never a screenshot
A hash is 66 characters starting 0x (or 64 hex on Tron). Screenshots take twenty seconds to forge in a browser's dev tools. If someone refuses to give you a hash, the conversation is over.
2Type the explorer domain by hand
bscscan.com, etherscan.io, tronscan.org, polygonscan.com. Never click a link the counterparty sent — cloned explorers on typo domains will validate anything you paste.
3Open the transfer and click through to the token
On the transaction page, find the Tokens Transferred row and click the token name. That takes you to the contract page — the only page that tells the truth.
4Compare the full contract address
Attackers generate vanity addresses matching the first four and last four characters of the real one, because that is all most wallets display. Check the middle.
5Read the explorer's own warnings
Impersonation tokens usually carry a red banner and a Suspicious tag. If you see one, stop immediately.
6Check confirmations and the amount
At least 15 confirmations on BNB Chain, 12 on Ethereum, 19 on Tron. A pending transfer can still be dropped. Verify the amount matches to the decimal.

The rule that survives every new variant
Scam techniques evolve constantly, but they all attack the same weak point: humans read names, computers read addresses. As long as you verify by address rather than by name, you are immune to the entire category — including variants that have not been invented yet.
