OKX left India: what Indian traders should use instead
OKX ceased services in India in 2024 after not registering with FIU-IND under the country's anti-money-laundering rules, and directed Indian users to close open positions and withdraw their funds. Unlike Binance and Bybit, it did not subsequently return.
Of the three large offshore P2P marketplaces Indian traders commonly used, OKX is the one that did not come back.
What happened
In March 2023 India brought virtual digital asset service providers under its anti-money-laundering framework, requiring platforms serving Indian users to register with FIU-IND. OKX did not register. In 2024 it ceased services in India, advising customers to close active positions and withdraw all funds ahead of a deadline — reported by TechCrunch and Forbes India.
The lesson worth taking from it
OKX did nothing improper — a company is entitled to decide a market is not worth the compliance cost. But that decision was theirs, and its consequences were yours. Indian users had a deadline they did not set to move funds they were relying on.
The risk was never that the platform was bad. The risk was that your access to it was somebody else's business decision.
Choosing a replacement
- 1Check registration status first for any platform serving Indian users — with FIU-IND's own register, not an article.
- 2Test the exit before the entry. Deposit small, withdraw small. How withdrawals actually work.
- 3Verify escrow timing — crypto locked before the buyer pays, or walk away.
- 4Export your records and keep them, wherever you end up. Why.
- 5Do not concentrate. One platform should not be your only route to rupees.

Is OKX banned in India?
OKX ceased its services in India in 2024 after not registering with FIU-IND under India's anti-money-laundering rules, and told Indian users to close positions and withdraw funds. It was the platform's own withdrawal from the market rather than a penalty like those Binance and Bybit paid.
Can I still use OKX P2P in India?
OKX withdrew from the Indian market and directed Indian users to exit. Check the platform's current position directly before assuming either way, since regulatory status changes.
What should I use instead of OKX in India?
Any platform you choose should be checkable on FIU-IND's register, escrow crypto before the buyer pays, verify counterparties, and let you export order records. Test all of it with one small trade and a small withdrawal.
